Revell 1/144 RSAF English Electric Lightning Gate Guardian - Completed

  I started to make this one for a Group Build on Britmodeller.  It was called "Lesser Known Air Forces GB", basically you was allowed to pick an air force from around the world excluding Russia, Japan, Germany, the UK and the USA.  I choose Mexico (which will be coming up later) and Saudi Arabia, namely the RSAF.  I did have a Revell 1/144 English Electric Lightning that fitted the bill perfectly and also a Retrowings Hawk T.1 (I think it's an OZMods original).  But the Lightning won out, I didn't wanna just build the model, so I decided on a base/diaorama of some sort.  This is what I was going to make...

  Now trying to find information on this was bloody hard.  There is pratically 8 pictures on it that I could find.  Google Earth/Street View is next to useless.  So anyhow, I decided to measure this all out to produce this...

  Measured it as good as I could, looks okay to me.  Next I'll show the WiP pictures and other goodies...

  No cockpit needed as this is a display model (quite literally), so it went together really really quick...

  After the prime and first coat of Ali, which showed up a few imperfections in the filling.  This be the second attempt to cover stuffs up.

  Here is the model pretty much finished, next my attention turned to the base, still had to source the SNEB pods and the Firestreaks (I think...)

  I managed to get some hard cardboard from Nats dad, so I made a mock up.  Now that I look at the pictures, I built this before I had finished the aircraft... my bad.  Anyhow I liked the base that much I decided to use it regardless, the model weighs next to nothing so the base didn't need to be too strong.

  Gave it a few coats with Vallejo paints, straight onto the cardboard.  It worked out quite well if you compare it to the original.

  I managed to win a cheap Revell 1/144 Hawker Hunter, these kits contain SNEB/rocket pods.  So that was a result, I liberated the rocket pods from said Hunter and used them on the lightning.  The plyon was scratch built using evergreen plastic, it isn't really that pretty but it works fine.

 

  The finished model, I did finish the model before the deadline, however I didn't pot the pictures up in time so it wasn't allowed to enter into the competition... oh well that learns me for being lazy huh?  The base is just clear acrylic I had liberated from work and sprayed black.  Simple but it works.  The decals where all that I had to hand, the badge and serial code is probably not the right ones for the actual aircraft, however I am happy with how she turned out.

Completed - Revell 1/72 Hawker Hurricane IIc

  I can not actually remember if I have posted any pictures of this aircraft on here or not, been trying to build this one over the last... well it has been a few years at least.  The problem I had was the left vertical stabilizer, or more specifically the dog eating it.  You couldn't make that up! Well I mentioned on Britmodeller that I was missing it and a nice chap by the name of Vulcanicity helped me by sending him some spares he has (legend!) So with the new bits in hand I got them on, filled and blended in and away I went. I tried to make her really dirty, kinda pulled it off I think.

Finished! Revell 1/72 Leopard II and T-80B

  Well I have finished these two fantastic little kits.  Took me bloody long enough that is for sure.  I had a right nightmare with the Leopard's decals, well that is not correct entirely... I have lost them.  I looked everywhere for them in the man-cave but fount nowt.  Buggered if I know where they are!  So I was stuck, then while looking around at the big H (Hannants) for... well stuff.  I found the newer Leopard II A6 (I think) on sale, which had markings for the Dutch version and the Germany army!  Result!  So I ordered it and used the German decals for this model and going to do the other one in the dutch colour's that will go well with my Swedish one!  The T-80, now that is another story, I painted it all up, I loved the green colour I used on it, but I wanted a camouflaged version (maybe next time).  So I had to paint it, that is when my airbrush decided to pack up for good.  I am lucky to get any air out of it.  I've placed the error down to the nozzle and the needle looked knackered (I have had it nearly two years now!).  In a feat of incredible British "Can Do" ingenuity I took bits off the other airbrush I have and used it on the main one.  Well the idea was good in principle, that is about all, it failed horribly.  I've now since ordered a brand new airbrush and finished off the little T-80 with it.  I haven't weathered it yet as I am unsure what to do, but I had a go at the Leopard.  I can always go back and dirty it up a little bit I guess.  Sorry for the picture quality, it was taken on my phone.

  To be fair there isn't really that many decals to on this one.  Maybe 6 at most, still they make a lot of difference.  I have learned a little bit from this model and plan to apply it to the other ones.  I will get pictures of this outside in natural light so you can see it in all it's horror!

Looking at it like this, you really wouldn't guess that I have used two different browns on her would you?  Those shovels/spades where a right bugger to paint!

The T-80B, not sure if the brown is the right shade or not, but I am happy with her, it is something different eh?  Think I will add some weathering to this one at a later date.

I can honestly imagine that if a T-80 commander ever got himself caught like this next to a Leopard (espically during the Cold War) he would probably have his head between his legs kissing his arse "goodbye".  I did cock up the spraying of the brown as it has gone over the wheels.  But I think I can use that as some kind of weathering as say it's mud, or give me a good base to work from.  We will see when I get some better pictures of it.

WiP - 1/72 Revell Leopard II

  Well I have not been spending as much time in the man shed as I would of liked.  My father and I are still wiring it up with lights and modern comforts, like heating!!  I got a little work done on my Leopard, but really it isn't much.

   You can see the bits that I have added, those... hand rails (?) where a right bugger to add, there is pratically no-where for them to stick onto!  Well thats the last of the parts to be added, just to paint them, do the little detail painting and then onto what I really want to do... weathering!! :)

WiP - 1/72 Revell Leopard II and T-80B

  So here we have my two long term armor project.  Since I have been playing World of Tanks a lot, I have wanted to make an armoured model of some description.  I know neither the Leopard or the T-80B are actually in WoT, but they where on sale at ModelZone.  On to the pictures!

  Both of the models together, I just can't get over the size of the Leopards turret compared to the T-80's.  Both of these tanks had different school of thoughts.  IIRC, the NATO countries where going to rely on taking out the WARSAW Pact tanks from range (camping anyone?!) at and over 1km.  Where as the WARSAW countries where going to rely on their numbers and basically Zerg rush everyone.  Know which one I would rather do...

  I have started to do the detail painting on the Leopard, and yes I have used two different shades of brown on it... I'm hoping it wont show as badly when I start to weather it and dirty it up a bit.  Need to find an easier way of doing the tracks, they where a complete pain and almost sent me boss-eyed... need to work on my 3 tone camo-skills.  I know what I have done wrong here and know how to correct it.  But this model is going to be a test bed for the new Humbrol weathering powders, looking forward to using them and seeing what kind of muck I can make with them! :) 

  Random shot of the T-80, I can't get over the size of that barrel!!  I decided that the turret looked really bare and after looking at different colours of this tank I noticed that there is a lot of wires missing from the hull and the turret.  So I used some 0.2mm thick wire attached with superglue, I think I went a little OTT with the superglue.  Least it wont move now eh?! :P  Will be painting this one dark green and white.

  Closer shot of that turret and wire bits.  I know the wire isn't straight, then again I have never seen any wires of any kind straight at all, well thats my excuse and I am sticking to it! :P  Hopefully I will be painting this one very soon (next week or so...).

New Project - Revell 1/24 Volkwagen "Samba" Bus

  This one is a little project for Nats sister.  She loves the VW bus, like most people really.  I was intending to build this for her for Christmas.  But between my holiday, being lazy and sorting out my man-cave I've just ran out of time.  I might get it finished next year...

  I warn you now, this model will be bright pink and it will clash badly...

  Here is the spartan engine bay, I am not sure if the colours are correct.  I had a search online and I found loads of different colours for everything.  So I have put a bit of colours on it to make things different.

  I was going to put lights and such on it, dont think I will now.

  Lets see how well I get on with it.

Completed - Revell 1/144 Apache Longbow AH-64D

  Well it has been a while since my last post.  I forgot that I had finished this little one.  Anyhow here she is in all her glory.  Think I will be buying another one and doing it correctly.

  Yeah its a little dusty, its amazing how much dust a camera can pick up on eh?

Revell 1/144 Hughes/Boeing AH-64D Apache Longbow WiP-2

  Getting through this one very quickly.  It's a good build and lots of fun.  I thought I would give Revell Aqua-colors a second try.  Wished I never bothered now.  They paint pretty crappy, think I will stick to my Vallejo's from now on.  The instructions say that the while aircraft is Olive Drab... like hell thats so boring! I will see what I can do.  Onto the pictures...

  Noticed that there is a lot of bits that need touching up.  I will do that later on.  Need to sort out a lot of the filler and the paint has shown up a lot of lumbs and bumps... weird...

New Project Revell 1/144 Hughes/Boeing AH-64D Apache Longbow WiP-1

  Here is my next entry, however this time it's for the helicopter GB also on Britmodeller.  I'm surprised by this, but no one has decided to do the Apache yet, pratically everything else, but.  Very surprising.

  This is the version I will be making, I was going to make an British Army version, but I got lazy and didn't do any research into it.  I've got another one laying around that I can always make into.

  Both sprue shots, nothing to write home about.  You get the idea, however I will not be using those Hellfires, they really suck, I could fix a few of them, but I will not be doing all 8, sod that.

  This is where I am upto as of last night.  I will be sorting all of the seam lines next.

  Close up of the cockpit.  what do you think of those seat belts?  I'm not too sure if they work or not.  Dont forget I have to put the canopy on it yet also.  If anyone is to build this model, I suggest that they put the wheel legs on before they put those little trunky bits on the side.  It's impossible to do otherwise.

Completed Revell 1/72 Spitfire MkVb LF

  Finally finished this one today, I am quite happy with the way it came out.  Tested a few new things and learned a lot with this one.  Now onto the other group builds I have to get done... I've agreed to far too much... :\

 

 

  think I am finally getting the hang of washing and I dont mean behind my ears either.
